The presidential contest in 2024 is shaping up to be a tight race, as another survey shows former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden nearing a tie in a hypothetical match-up.
In an Economist/YouGov poll published Wednesday, Trump bested Biden by one point, 44% to 43%. This result is within the survey's margin of error. Seven percent of respondents reported they would vote for "other," 3% said they weren't sure, and 3% wouldn't vote.

When asked who would win an election between the two men, Biden beat the former president by one point. Thirty-nine percent said Biden would win reelection, while 38% said Trump would defeat him.
According to the poll, only 38% of respondents approve of Biden's job as president either strongly or somewhat, while 55% disapprove.
In a Republican primary race, Trump maintained his significant lead over the field, with 51% saying they would vote for him. Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Trump's closest rival, is 37 points behind him with 14%.

This is only the latest poll to show a potential Biden and Trump rematch as practically too close to call, given most surveys' margins of error. A recent Harris-Messenger poll conducted by HarrisX showed a similar result, with Biden leading Trump 45% to 44%.
In 2020, when Trump was the incumbent president, he received roughly 7 million fewer votes than Biden. Biden also received 306 electoral votes to Trump's 232.
