A giant, inflatable IUD was unveiled by a reproductive rights group in front of Washington Union Station on Wednesday.

Americans for Contraception placed the device there in hopes of encouraging the Senate to pass the Right to Contraception Act.

However, the Senate failed to advance the bill, which would have codified the right to access contraceptives nationwide. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had proposed the legislation to ensure the right to contraception, and Democrats have been looking to put reproductive care at the forefront of their messaging agenda in the lead-up to the November elections.

The Right to Contraception Act fell short of the 60 votes needed to move forward, 51-39. Democrats denied the vote being a partisan ploy.

“This is not a show vote,” Schumer said. “This is a show-us-who-you-are vote. The Republicans don’t want to show who they really are.”

While the GOP had long been anti-abortion, former President Donald Trump has signaled a willingness to be less restrictive than other Republicans, perhaps predicting it will affect November’s presidential election.
