General Motors is being blasted for missing the mark with its Super Bowl 2023 commercial that touted giving electric vehicles “the stage they deserve.”
GM joined forces with Netflix to feature Will Ferrell driving several electric models through settings of the streaming platform’s shows.
Shortly after the commercial aired, it was slammed for failing to promote its own electric line and instead drawing greater interest in Tesla.

Another tweeted: “Cringe af. But still an ad for Tesla.”

Ferrell’s performance, however, was highly praised, with some suggesting he will remain memorable instead of GM.
“Everyone will say ‘I loved the Will Ferrell Super Bowl ad!!!’ Which is the whole problem with it,” Morning Brew’s Jack Appleby noted. “You’ll never remember the brand.”

One Twitter user said that GM cannot produce what it promotes.
“Why does GM keep advertising vehicles they can’t produce? I guess next years supply of Lyrics is already going to Netflix,” the tweet said.

GM said its decision to go with Netflix and Ferrell in the ad was based on the impact of pop culture on the market
“Entertainment has a huge impact on culture. We want to make EVs famous on streaming, small and silver screens to build an EV culture through storytelling that incorporates the experiences of driving and owning an EV," GM Global CMO Deborah Wahl told Fox News.
