Ana Navarro took the opportunity on Monday's episode of The View to tie Gov. Ron DeSantis's (R-FL) blocking of an Advanced Placement African American history course to the police beating death of Tyre Nichols.
"This is why in the midst of all of this happening, banning AP African American studies in Florida is the wrong thing to do because we need to learn from history," Navarro said.

She added that "These cops were blue before they were black," referencing the fact that the involved officers were also black men.
"I think we are so tired, everyone is so tired, particularly black mothers, are so tired of seeing this over and over again," she said.
"How many more times are we going to have to see black youth beaten to death, beaten to the point of not being recognizable, and do it over and over again. Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Stephon Clark, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Tyre Nichols. How many more times?" Navarro asked.
"This is why we cannot ban history," she said before connecting DeSantis's move to the killing. "This is why we need to learn."
Goldberg interjected, directing her co-host to tell her state's governor, who happens to be DeSantis.
"When will the brutality finally lead to some police reform?" Goldberg asked at the beginning of the show.
She then wondered when change would eventually come about. “Do we need to see white people also get beaten before anybody will do anything?" she asked.
"I'm not suggesting that," she backtracked. "So don't write us and tell me what a racist I am."
"I'm just asking, is that what people have to see in order to wake up and realize this affects us all?”

The parents of Nichols were guests later on the show alongside civil rights attorney Ben Crump.
Nichols was beaten by several Memphis police officers during a traffic stop earlier this month. He later died due to the injuries sustained. The police department recently released graphic footage from the beating, one of which shows Nichols calling out for his mother.
