South Carolina residents have two more days to file their 2021 taxes and receive a rebate of up to $800.

Recipients will be issued their tax rebate in March. Rebates will go to all South Carolina residents who file their taxes by Feb. 15, according to the state's Department of Revenue.

STIMULUS UPDATE: DEADLINE FOR HOMEOWNERS TO APPLY FOR $1,500 PAYMENT IN 16 DAYS

The rebate amount received is reliant upon an applicant's tax liability — the total state income tax owed by a South Carolina resident for the 2021 tax year. If residents have an outstanding individual income tax bill with the department, the amount they receive may be lower than their tax liability. That bill will be subtracted from the rebate amount.

The rebate amount will be equal to the tax liability if the latter is less than $800. The rebate amount will be equal to the tax liability. Recipients whose tax liability is greater than $800 will receive $800 exactly.

Many South Carolina residents should have already received their check. The previous filing deadline for the rebate was Oct. 17, 2022. It was extended to Feb. 15. Applicants who filed their 2021 taxes by the October filing date already received their payment, which was issued in December.
