The White House denounced a newly created Republican-led subcommittee investigating the “weaponization” of government as a partisan political stunt that fails to serve American interests.
President Joe Biden’s Oversight spokesperson said that instead of working with Democrats to fight inflation, boost manufacturing and expand healthcare, House Republicans are “staging pointless political stunts” and chasing debunked conspiracies “all in service of getting booked on Fox News.”

“These extreme MAGA Republicans in Congress are choosing to make it their top priority to go down the rabbit hole of debunked conspiracy theories about a ‘deep state’ instead of taking a deep breath and deciding to work with the President and Democrats in Congress to improve Americans’ everyday lives,” Ian Sams said in a memo Thursday.
Sams accused Republicans of using the committee “to weaponize the MAGA agenda” by “going after civil servants, private citizens, and the rule of law.”
The attack on “MAGA” Republicans recalls Biden’s effort to elevate his polarizing former and potential future rival Donald Trump and secure Democrats an electoral advantage in the midterms.
The White House compared the committee's work to "McCarthyism." In addition to the historical legacy of Sen. Joseph McCarthy (R-WI), the current GOP leader in the chamber is House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).
