NextImg:Novac Djokovic wins the Austrailian Open for a record 10th time

Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open for the tenth time Sunday, his first open since the ban on his visa was lifted.

Djokovic won 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-6(5) against Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in just under three hours, tying with Rafael Nadal for a record of 22 Grand Slam wins.

The Serbian player was deported ahead of the 2022 Australian Open after his medical exemption for the COVID-19 vaccination was denied, subsequently canceling his visa. His appeals were also denied on the grounds of public interest so as not to “excite anti-vax sentiment." Australian Immigration Minister Andrew Giles revoked the ban on his visa in November.

"Dare to dream. Everything is possible," Djokovic said after the match. "Don't let anyone take the dream away."

Djokovic remains unvaccinated and was also absent from the US Open last year, as travel restrictions require that those traveling into the country be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
