Some New Yorkers are angry that the Empire State Building lit up in green and white after the Philadelphia Eagles secured their bid for the Super Bowl.
Following the Eagles' 31-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC championship game, the iconic New York City building tweeted a photo of its tribute to the Philadelphia NFL team.

New Yorkers quickly slammed the tweet.
As the representative for the Empire State Building, and a diehard Giants fan, let me be on the record saying that this is absolutely ridiculous. ⬇️ https://t.co/SL4rP0Z2ys

"As the representative for the Empire State Building, and a diehard Giants fan, let me be on the record saying that this is absolutely ridiculous," New York City Councilman Keith Powers tweeted.
Former congressman and Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin tweeted: “Please tell me this is because someone who controls the Empire State Building lost a tremendously stupid bet.”
New York’s city departments even took notice, with its department of sanitation deflecting attention away from the Eagles.
For anyone who finds this as treacherous, traitorous, and unforgivable as we do - just pretend it's green and white for #NewYorksStrongest. We take out the trash every day...and next year, that'll include the Eagles. https://t.co/6vgfub5ZHw

New York City Councilman Justin Brannan called for a new law that would ban a city building from displaying the colors of a non-New York team.
“A Local Law to amend the New York city charter and the administrative code of the city of New York, in relation to this never happening again,” Brannan said.
Another Twitter user called the Empire State Building’s move “treason.”

The Empire State Building responded to the backlash by changing its colors to red and yellow in honor of the Kansas City Chiefs AFC championship win.
“That hurt us more than it hurt you,” the building tweeted. “We’re now lit for the @chiefs in honor of their AFC Championship Win.”

The change in colors was not well-received, as many accused the Empire State Building of backpedaling.
The Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Feb. 12.
