Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) slammed members of the "Squad" for their outcry on the House floor Friday over a vote to oust Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
During a fiery House floor speech, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tore into Republicans, accusing them of exhibiting "racism against Muslim Americans." In response, Mace shrugged off the Squad as a bunch of "drama queens." She initially opposed the resolution to boot Omar but reversed course at the last minute and backed the move to eject Omar on the basis of her alleged antisemitism.
OMAR OUSTER: HERE ARE THE ARGUMENTS FOR AND AGAINST THE DEMOCRAT'S COMMITTEE REMOVAL
"I would say that was complete drama queens on full display. And there's no surprise there that they would use racism as an excuse. They weren't there two years ago when Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar were being kicked off. They weren't using that as an excuse. And it's really unbelievable. But it's very typical of the Squad to see that kind of behavior on the floor," Mace told Fox News.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) pushed his members for a resolution to eject Omar from the committee, pointing to her past remarks, such as a tweet from 2012, in which Omar said, “Israel has hypnotized the world.” Omar, an advocate of Palestinian rights in Israel, has since apologized for her remarks. Her colleagues, including Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), rallied to her defense.
"There is nothing consistent about the Republican Party’s continued attack except for racism and incitement of violence against women of color in this body,” Ocasio-Cortez said, claiming that Omar was being targeted because she was black and Muslim, not because of her comments.
"I had a member of the Republican caucus threaten my life and the Republican caucus rewarded him with one of the most prestigious committee assignments in this Congress."

"You are showing who you all are really. I and Congresswoman Omar will not be silenced. To Congresswoman Omar, I am so sorry, sis, that this country is failing you today through this chamber," Tlaib declared in an emotional speech. Tlaib and Omar are both Muslim members of Congress.

Many Democrats accused Republicans of embarking on political vengeance over Rep. Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) ouster of Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and later Paul Gosar (R-AZ) from committee assignments during the prior Congress. Last week, McCarthy also moved to block Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from serving on the House Intelligence Committee.

Mace initially resisted pressure from McCarthy to greenlight Omar's ouster alongside Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN), potentially imperiling the initiative given Republicans' slim 222-213 House majority. She ultimately flipped in support after cutting a deal with McCarthy to ensure due process for members in danger of getting ejected from their committee assignments.
Democrats unanimously opposed the motion to remove Omar, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) announced plans to move her to the House Budget Committee in response.
The highly partisan vote to remove @Ilhan was not about accountability.

It was about political revenge.
I will move immediately to seat Rep. Omar on the House Budget Committee.
Where she will defend Democratic values against right-wing extremism.
