President Joe Biden downplayed the severity of the suspected Chinese spy balloon's invasion of United States airspace. He said it was "not a major breach."
The president's comments came in the wake of a contentious briefing of Congress by Biden officials on the situation.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said she had to wait in line at the briefing before tearing into the Biden officials.
The president backed up his case by comparing the situation to other nations' collection of intelligence.
“It’s not a major breach. Look, the total amount of intelligence-gathering that’s going on by every country around the world is overwhelming,” he said in an interview with Noticias Telemundo on Thursday.

“It’s our airspace. And once it comes into our space, we can do what we want with it,” he added. Biden said the act was “a violation of international law.”
The Biden administration faced harsh criticism over its handling of the instant, particularly from Republicans. They argued that the balloon should have been shot down much earlier.
The president has defended his decision as necessary to prevent collateral damage from debris.
One of his fiercest critics over the incident was Greene. She renewed her criticisms in the classified House briefing from Biden administration officials on Thursday.
“I had to wait in line the whole time. I was, I think, the second to last person, and I chewed them out just like the American people would’ve,” Greene told the Hill. “I tore ‘em to pieces.”
“I said the president may be a Democrat, but he’s still the president of the United States, and they made him look like a fool and made him look weak the week before the State of the Union — I’ve said that publicly, too — by not shooting it down,” Greene said. “And I said there was nothing I heard there today that gave me any confidence in what they did.”

One lawmaker told the outlet that Greene also shouted profanities, contributing to an atmosphere of tension in the room.
