Rep. George Santos (R-NY) praised the decision by House Republicans to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The House voted 218-211 to remove Omar from the committee, with all Republicans but one voting in favor and all Democrats voting against. The reason cited for her removal were remarks from the Minnesota Democrat decried by both sides of the aisle as antisemitic.

Santos praised the decision on Thursday, saying it was a critical step in fighting antisemitism and showing support for the Jewish community.

HOUSE REMOVES ILHAN OMAR FROM FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE IN PARTY-LINE VOTE

"Today, I rise to congratulate my colleagues on voting to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee. The passage of HR 76 sends [a] strong message that we support Israel and the Jewish community," Santos said on the House floor.

"I urge the 118th Congress to now stand together proudly upholding every single American, no matter race, pedigree, religion, nor creed, as any less American than their neighbor, that Jewish Americans are patriotic Americans, and that we all have a role in fighting bigotry and antisemitism in our country. We must make sure the House of Representatives reflects such principles as a united body," he added.

Santos has come under scrutiny for his relationship with the Jewish community. He falsely claimed that his grandmother was a Jewish Holocaust survivor. He also defended earlier claims that he was Jewish, saying he meant that he was "Jew-ish."
