President Joe Biden visited with the Laborers' International Union of North America in Deforest, Wisconsin Wednesday, marking the first stop of a soft kickoff for his 2024 reelection campaign.

The president spoke heavily about his support for labor and reiterated many of the economic points he addressed in Tuesday night's State of the Union address.

"This is a blue-collar blueprint to rebuild America," the president said of his agenda during remarks before the group.

Biden additionally pointed to the bipartisan infrastructure law, which White House officials say has fostered more than $4 billion in new investments for the states, and he claimed these new projects creates new jobs for "laborers plumbers, pipe fitters, electricians, carpenters, cement masons, iron workers and so many more."

"These are good jobs. Jobs you can raise a family on and most don't require a college degree jobs where people don't have to leave home in search of an opportunity," the president continued. "But they do require at least four years of training apprenticeships, which is one of the reasons the United States has the best trade workers in the world."

Biden also rehashed a contentious moment from Tuesday night's speech, where he and Republican lawmakers exchanged barbs over alleged proposals to gut entitlement programs. He specifically accused Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) of supporting changing Social Security and Medicare to yearly re-authorization schedules.

"I will not allow anyone to cut them," Biden closed, vowing to protect Social Security and Medicare. "Not today, not tomorrow, not ever, Period."

Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, however, suggested that Biden's economic messaging "is out of touch with American families who are struggling to keep up with Biden's failed economy."

"Every day is a crisis for American workers facing rising costs to feed their families, yet Joe Biden continues to deflect, divide, and duck blame without offering solutions," she said in a statement.
