NextImg:Amazon Fresh to remove free grocery delivery for orders under $150

Amazon's grocery delivery service may be past its prime due to a fresh adjustment the tech giant will make to its shipping prices.

The company will no longer offer free grocery deliveries to Amazon Prime members for orders under $150 beginning on Feb. 28. The additional costs of delivery orders under $150 will vary from $3.95 to $9.95, according to an email Amazon sent to Prime members on Friday.

Boxes of Amazon Fresh deliveries are unloaded in New York on June 16, 2019.

“We’re introducing a service fee on some Amazon Fresh delivery orders to help keep prices low in our online and physical grocery stores as we better cover grocery delivery costs and continue to enable offering a consistent, fast, and high-quality delivery experience,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement shared with the Washington Examiner.

Orders that purchase more groceries will have a lower fee than smaller Amazon Fresh orders. For orders under $50, the delivery charge will be $9.95, orders between $50 and $100 will have a $6.95 charge, and orders between $100 and $150 will have a $3.95 charge.

Amazon Fresh presently offers free grocery delivery to Prime members on orders above $35. New York is an exception to this offer, where free delivery is offered to groceries over $50, according to the Associated Press.

The grocery retailer will offer two-hour delivery windows for all orders, though some customers who live in select areas can partake in a six-hour delivery window to receive a reduced delivery fee, according to the email.

There is a total of 44 Amazon Fresh stores in the United States, the majority of which are located in California. Amazon is also the owner of the grocery retailer Whole Foods, which has over 500 stores across the world.
