Dr. John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime, recently spoke at the VDare conference. He has a piece up at the Wall Street Journal arguing that crime is actually up, not down. What a heretic! Bringing facts to the argument and pointing out that crimes are not being reported because the cops can’t, won’t, or don’t arrest criminals, and even when they do, the criminals are back out on the street in the blink of an eye [At the Wall Street Journal: The Media Say Crime Is Going Down. Don’t Believe It: The decline in reported crimes is a function of less reporting, not less crime, Crime Prevention Research Center, April 24, 2024].
Likewise, we have been told over and over again that immigrants commit less crime than the native -population. When they do that comparison, do they show immigrants as compared to the overall population, the white population, or our largely non-white criminal population?
In any case, Sharyl Attkisson has a piece up titled, High Percentage of Federal Prisoners are Criminal Aliens or Noncitizens, May 3, 2024.
According to the census, in 2014, about 7 percent of the U.S. population were noncitizens or aliens—many of them illegal immigrants. That’s about one in 14 people. Yet the GAO says that criminal aliens accounted for one in five, and as many as one in four, prison inmates during the time period analyzed. That works out to about triple the number of criminal aliens that there should have been if they committed crime at the same rate as US citizens. [Emphasis in original]
So, despite headlines that claim the opposite, when you actually crunch the numbers, it falls apart. Immigrants do commit more crime.
When I was fresh out of college, I had a Turkish friend. He told me that his fellow Turkish students were racking up all sorts of credit card debt with the intention of leaving home for Turkey and never returning to the United States again. They had no ties to America beyond their degrees. Besides, they were also devout Muslims, so screwing over what they see as a Christian nation was no big deal to them. Ties to the community do make a difference.
We also wouldn’t have a fentanyl problem or crystal meth problem without immigration. Drugs don’t walk themselves across the border. I never ran into a drug ring investigation that didn’t have a foreign component to it. We ain’t growing cocaine here.
