This has been a very hard and heavy week for America. Many tears have been shed. Many hearts broken, many prayers said, and knees bent. The loss of Charlie Kirk has sent ripples through the nation. But it was the voice of a mother, Charlie’s wife Erika, that echoed around the world and pierced our hearts in her first address after her husband’s tragic death.
Erika is not only the mother of Charlie’s beautiful children, but she is also now the mother of the movement he started, the legacy he left—one she is fervently committed to preserving and growing. And I have no doubt she will because this is a mother’s heart, and she, like so many mothers across the nation and around the world, know very well what is at stake.
Unfortunately, there are still too many people who don’t, or can’t, grasp the depths of where we are or why it should matter to us. So, let the voice of this mother try and help you understand.
For the last four years, I have been speaking to thousands of mothers across the country and around the world with one specific message. A voice of warning. It was a message God put heavy on my heart, and I knew I had to deliver it. Every speech I gave, every audience I addressed, no matter how small or how big, included that message. I will share that same message with you today.
We are at war. Most of us don’t even realize it. But it wages every day. It isn’t about politics, political parties, right versus left, race or gender. It is a war of good and evil. The same war that has raged since the dawn of time but now it is in its most desperate hour. The forces of evil are evident, mounted against us at every turn with one objective—kill God and enslave the people.
How do you do that?
The same way it has been perpetrated throughout history. We have seen it as recent as the 20th century with three of the most heinous despots of our time—Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. They tortured adults, but they defeated nations by stealing the hearts and minds of children.
They created chaos to breed fear, closed churches to remove God, converted schools and universities into indoctrination camps, seized control of media to promote their propaganda, murdered people for speaking against their agenda. As Joseph Stalin stated, “Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas.”
Mao used the liberation of women to create a mass movement with his little red book. He closed the schools, took control of the food, seized property; and established the Red Guard, that were not grown men but children as young as six years old. I shared this dark history on one of our MomView segments. If you want to truly understand what we are facing, I urge you to watch it.
The House of Terror Museum in Budapest, Hungary chronicles the tragic story of how the people of Hungary went from the oppressive cruelty of Hitler’s socialist brownshirts to Russia’s tyrannical communist overlords. The same men and women who perpetrated evil in Hitler’s name replaced their brown shirts with their new communist uniforms inflicting torture and terror on their own neighbors and countrymen for 50 years.
Walking through the halls of the museum reliving that tragic history was heartbreaking realizing the same diabolical campaigns are being deployed in our own country today. Before guns were drawn, it was about silencing voices through bullying, intimidation, and hunger, turning neighbor against neighbor, inciting a spirit of fear. Once that was accomplished, mass murdering innocent people became easy.
In 1963 45 Communist Goals were entered into the Congressional Record as a voice of warning. Reading through the list you will see that almost every single goal has been accomplished.
If the devil had a religion, it would be communism. There is no God in communism, no family, no property, no individual freedom. And communism is being preached in our schools and universities. When you know the history of Hitler, Stalin, and Mao, you recognize it—in our school textbooks promoting racism and division, on college campuses with cries of “free Palestine”, in media that reports evil as good and good as evil, even in the halls of Congress and our own government agencies that ignore the law and encourage violence.
Evil is not a specific race, religion, ethnic group, or sex. It is an individual choice. There are people who choose good and people who choose evil. I’ve seen and witnessed both sides.
My husband and I had the opportunity to visit Europe this summer. We were at Normandy Beach on D-Day honoring all those who sacrificed everything to turn the tide of the war and stop Hitler. We sat in the living room of Corrie ten Boom’s home reliving the constant fear Corrie and her family lived under and the day they were arrested and sent to Concentration Camps for hiding Jews. I stood in Corrie’s small hiding place where four Jewish men and two Jewish women huddled for two days before being rescued. Corrie and her family knew the risk, but they knew it was the right thing to do. It was worth the sacrifice.
My husband and I sobbed together as we saw the evidence of evil walking through the furnaces at Auschwitz and the prison barracks of Birkenau and Dickau. In Berlin we stood before what remains of the Berlin Wall knowing that not so long ago it divided families. Freedom on one side of the wall, tyranny, death, and despair on the other.
It was surreal watching children play running back and forth from one side of the wall to the other. ‘Do they understand how profound this is,’ I wondered. ‘Do they know what it means to be able to do such a simple act?’
Since the fall of Nazi Germany, people have asked how Hitler, someone so evil, could have risen to power? How could the people of Germany and Austria have voted for him in such large numbers? The answer is the same reason so many people voted for Zohran Mamdani
They make evil sound good. Liberal media and the Democrat party are heralding Mamdani, embracing him as their next big thing—the same way the national socialist workers party elevated Hitler.
John Stossel did a two-part series on Mamdani
another voice of warning—because what Mamdani is promoting is what so many young people have been led to believe today. That is why Charlie Kirk embarked on his mission, and why he was seen as such a threat. It is why I founded Moms for America in 2004, because I saw something wicked coming. Parents need to understand how dangerous this threat is to our children when making educational choices and considering the influences in our children’s lives.
We might ask what would we have done when Hitler was rising to power? What would we have done when Nazi’s were loading people onto trains bound for concentration camps. Would we have been Corrie ten Boom sacrificing everything for what we knew was right, or would we have been the people that sang louder as the trains road by so we didn’t have to hear the screams and cries from those inside?
Glenn Beck posed this very question speaking at a Turning Point event in December of 2023. After pausing he answered with emotion in his voice. “Whatever you are doing right now,” he said, “that’s what you would have done.”
This is what a young 18-year-old high school graduate understood when he had a vision to build a movement that would be a turning point for our nation. This is why so many mourned his death and are championing his message. In 13 short years Charlie created a movement that inspired youth and adults alike, building thousands of chapters, touching millions of hearts and minds. And now, the voice of a mother will carry on that legacy.
I was honored to know Charlie and serve in the trenches with him, fighting the good fight, understanding the cost and knowing why it is all so worth it.
As Erika spoke from the studio where her husband spoke to the nation every day, her voice echoed across oceans and continents. A voice of courage, of hope, of love and commitment amidst her deepest pain and ultimate sacrifice. It was the voice of peace, the voice of thunder. It is the voice of a mother.
