To read the breathless headlines in places like the Wall Street Journal about the indictment of James Comey, one would think the former FBI director is actually the saintly, persecuted figure he has framed himself to be these past eight years.
A Journal headline in the print edition recently blared: 'Ex-FBI Head Comey Indicted As Trump Presses for Payback'. Oh no, you say. This poor, tragic public servant has been targeted for 'payback' by Trump. The horror!
Then you read two paragraphs in and realize that there are actual crimes of which Comey is accused, which even the Journal's lefty reporters have to acknowledge. They write, “Prosecutors had raced to obtain the indictment, as the statute of limitations on such a case was due to run out next week.
The “case” over which the statute of limitations was 'due to run out' were Comey's very real alleged crimes. It wasn't some mythical thing that a raging Donald Trump conjured up in his imagination while tossing and turning on a sleepless night in the White House, notwithstanding the spin the Democrat activists pretending to be unbiased mainstream media reporters would have you believe.
The crimes involved Comey's allegedly false testimony to the US Senate's Judiciary Committee on September 30, 2020, that he had not been informed of subordinate Andrew McCabe's leaks to the Wall Street Journal in 2016 regarding the DOJ's investigation of corruption at the Clinton Foundation.
Despite the very strong evidence that Comey did in fact break the law by lying to Senator Ted Cruz in his September 2020 sworn testimony denying knowledge or approval of McCabe's leaks to the Journal, the Journal casts Comey as a victim of Trump political retaliation. They write,'quot The new prosecution is a major escalation of Trump's efforts to seek retribution against his perceived enemies.
Hey, Wall Street Journal, how about holding top government officials accountable to the rule of law? Or do you only shill for the ones that leak to you? The beauty of the very valid charge against Comey in one of the two counts against him -making false statements, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1001(a)(2) - is that it is the identical charge levied against Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump's first National Security Advisor, stemming from an entrapment operation set up by Comey himself, about which he gloated having arranged in front of a studio audience.
In a disgusting display of hubris befitting a Greek tragedy, Comey laid out with surprising candormhow he had effectively created a perjury trap for Flynn shortly after the first Trump administration had assumed office.
Everyone should re-watch this short clip from the December 2019 interview of James Comey by MSNBC's Nicole Wallace in which Comey brazenly describes how he took advantage of the initial chaos encountered by any new administration establishing itself by dispatching two reptilian FBI agents to catch a good-natured Michael Flynn off-guard.
Comey, knowing he is speaking in front of a like-minded left-wing interviewer and left-wing audience, is shockingly comfortable in describing his exploitation and manipulation of an unsuspecting American patriot in order to set him up to be hit with federal felony charges for making false statements.
What is just as disturbing as Comey's pathological mendacity and willingness to bend a justice system to persecute a man who'd devoted his life to defending our country is the leftist audience's roaring laughter and obvious approval of such evil. These are our fellow American citizens busting a gut at the plight of General Flynn, who would be put through legal, financial and reputational hell over the next eight years.
The other count brought against Comey was obstruction of a congressional proceeding, in violation of U.S.C. 18 § 1505. This happens to be one of the counts that former Trump advisor and friend Roger Stone was charged with in his outrageous prosecution relating to the non-existent “Trump-Russia collusion” conspiracy.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller, showing signs of mental incapacity at the time, eventually admitted that the Trump-Russia collusion conspiracy did not exist, following an exhaustive two-year, $32-million investigation. Nonetheless, Merrick Garland would send more than two dozen heavily armed FBI agents and SWAT team members to raid Roger Stone’s Florida home at dawn, guns drawn, terrorizing then 66-year-old Stone and his wife, complete with a CNN camera crew in tow. They could not have simply contacted the prominent political advisor’s attorneys and arranged for Stone to turn himself in, as James Comey has been allowed to do. No, they had to make a grand televised spectacle of Mr. Stone’s arrest.
I think those of us on the right who have been smoldering over the gross abuses by and weaponization of our “Justice” Department under the Biden Administration can be forgiven for taking a bit of pleasure in James Comey’s current plight. But I do wonder why we didn’t see two dozen rifle-toting FBI agents and SWAT team members dragging a shackled Comey out of his Connecticut estate in a Fox News segment. Maybe Kash Patel needs to up his game.
