In what would have been a bombshell story if the subject were a Republican politician, or a politician of any stripe 20 years ago, Virginia Democratic Party Attorney General-candidate Jay Jones was revealed to have sent text messages of a homicidal nature to a colleague three years ago.

The story, first broken in the National Review, seems especially timely, given the violent turn that the entire Democratic Party has taken of late. Jones, then a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, was having a text message conversation in 2022 with a Republican colleague, Delegate Carrie Coyner. Jones was expressing bitterness that the recently deceased old-time centrist black Virginia politician, Joe Johnson, Jr., was being fondly eulogized by the likes of Republican House Speaker Todd Gilbert.

Jones actually wrote to Coyner in a series of text messages: “Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, hitler, and pol pol [sic]. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head. Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives two bullets every time.”

Coyner was so disturbed by the comment that she responded: “Jay- Please stop.”

But he didn’t stop. He dug deeper. Referring to Gilbert as “that POS”, Jones told Coyner that he wondered what Gilbert “would say about me if I died.” He continued, “If those guys died before me, I will go to their funerals to piss on their graves,” to “send them out awash in something.”

Jones’s flow of texting charm continued, when he said, “I mean do I think Todd and Jennifer [Gilbert’s wife] are evil? And that they’re breeding little fascists? Yes.” Todd and Jennifer Gilbert’s children were toddlers.

Perhaps the most bizarre aspect of the story is that when Jones realized he’d crossed a line with Coyner, he called her to somehow improve the situation. Instead, he actually made it worse. According to the National Review, while apparently trying to impress upon Coyner the societal dangers of gun violence, Jones “suggested he wished Gilbert’s wife could watch her own child die in her arms so that Gilbert might reconsider his political views, prompting Coyner to hang up the phone in disgust.” A source who was aware of the contents of the telephone conversation related the account to NR.

I recently wrote in these pages that the Democratic Party was becoming the Manson Family. The shocking rise in the level of both violent rhetoric and violent action, almost entirely being committed currently by people on the Left in the United States, seems to be developing into a national security concern.

But it is the seeming acceptance of this violent action and rhetoric by large swathes of those who identify as “liberal,” “progressive” or “Democrat”, according to polling data, that is most troubling of all. And that is reinforced by the failure of any Democratic politicians, including theDemocratic candidate for governor of Virginia, Abigail Spanberger, to demand that Jay Jones drop out of the race. Indeed, in virtually any other time in this country, the exposure of such writings by any politician would immediately have ended his public career forever.

The Democratic Party, and its various offshoots, describing themselves as progressive, liberal, socialist or what-have-you, have so ratcheted up the vitriol against their political opponents that those who share the same beliefs and are on the edge of psychosis will inevitably take that final step and carry out violence against those opponents.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk is the most prominent recent example. But examples abound. The odious Southern Poverty Law Center, which many decades ago apparently did some good, legitimate work in the civil rights arena, long ago abandoned its noble calling, and became a hate-obsessed spewer of calumny and vitriol.

The SPLC’s characterization of the Christian-based Family Research Council as a “hate group” inspired would-be assassin Floyd Corkins to attempt mass murder at FRC’s headquarters in 2012. But for the actions of an incredibly brave unarmed building operations manager, who thwarted the attack, and was shot in the process, the death toll could have been immense.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal recently, Kristen Waggoner, Chief Counsel and CEO of Alliance Defending Freedom, noted that months before his assassination, Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA had been designated a “hate group” by the SPLC, equating it with the Ku Klux Klan. Ms. Waggoner, who has represented high-profile clients in landmark legal cases, indicated that her organization, ADF, was labelled a “hate group” by the SPLC in 2016 while they were representing cake artist Jack Phillips before the Supreme Court in the Masterpiece Cakeshop case. Ms. Waggoner’s car windows were shot out around that time. She has had to travel with security at most places she goes to since her life was threatened again in 2022.

I myself was the target of an SPLC hit piece in their “Hate Watch” column in 2022, because the group had obtained hacked information from the GiveSendGo account of a conservative scientist friend of mine to whom I had donated a few dollars after his career was destroyed when he questioned the safety of Covid injections.

It is amazing that the FBI was a close collaborator with the SPLC up until this month, when Director Kash Patel finally ended that unholy alliance.

Jay Jones is a sad, despicable human being who should never hold public office again. The Democratic Party’s failure to denounce Jay Jones’s hideous rhetoric points not only to an alarming acceptance, but also an embrace, of the extreme left’s openly advocated political violence. My state of Virginia could, and should, do much better. That “much better” is the Republican alternative, Jason Miyares.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
