There can be no explanation for Israel’s behavior. Like the West, it is a neutered giant whose great military and technical advantage is nullified by moral weakness.
The closest the victorious Allies came to the nonsense of providing their enemies with food came when Operation Market-Garden went sideways, and most of the food, ammunition, and supplies dropped near Arnhem were captured by the Germans. At least that was unintentional. It came out this week that top Hamas leaders hijacked the original humanitarian aid delivered by Israel after the war started. Underlings who complained received free knuckle sandwiches. I wonder if Israel took orders like Uber-Eats or not.
Israel cannot and will not win unless it is willing to break the taboos that have hamstrung Western armies since the Korean War. The bottom line is if you want to win a war, you need to be ruthless. You need to destroy your enemy to the point that he begs and grovels for mercy. Until World War 2, this point was obvious. Patton: “No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country.” Israel is at the cutting edge of modern high-tech warfare: sending warnings via SMS and phone calls, dropping maps and providing instructions via drones, using hyper-accurate munitions to kill a target and avoid collateral damage. Bravo! It’s like a woman running in the Miss America Pageant for Miss Congeniality. She is not there to win; she is there to be liked.
It’s an unfortunate fact of life that if you want to win a war, you have to be brutal. Hamas understands this and tries to send another few hundred Jews out of this world via five bus bombs that, thank God, hurt nobody. The Russians understand it as do the Chinese. The Western forces do not. They’re into “hearts and minds” and making the locals love us. One of the most ridiculous things I have seen in my life involved a documentary about British forces in Afghanistan. They interviewed a young woman who was up there in the front-line villages. The interviewer asked her what her job was. She said something to the effect: “I meet with the women of the village. I tell them about our Western lifestyles. This does nothing for the grandmas or the mothers. But maybe those little girls there will be interested in the future.” For this, she risked her life every day.

Israel has the firepower to destroy Gaza in an afternoon. She will not use it. It will do amazing things like exploding pagers or killing a wanted terrorist hiding where no one can find him. The intelligence is outstanding, as is the coordination of forces. But if one drives a Ferrari in the wrong direction, he still won’t reach his destination. Somehow, somewhere, leaders in Jerusalem need to decide that kidnapping a young mother and her two babies, killing the latter, and holding back the body of the former is enough to wipe Hamas off the face of the Earth. If they cannot come to that conclusion, then they should hold elections and let the people decide if they want to keep sending in food, water, and electricity, or if they want Hamas members to be vaporized via a brutal bombing operation. If Israel does not destroy Hamas through ruthless war-making, then Hamas wins. Period.
And as to Hamas winning, the final laugh will be on Muslims in the West. Since Hamas and similar groups base all of their actions (to the point of claiming that the kidnapping of the Bibas family was according to Islamic teachings) on the Koran and associated texts, Islam will be tarred with the actions of their offspring, Hamas. Since the terrorists act on religious impulse and nobody vehemently opposes their interpretation of Islam, then those in the West will have to conclude that Islam and Hamas are one and the same. Already, in the West, Donald Trump was elected, in part, from the wild protests of the Hamas lovers. European countries are moving right also partly for the same reason. In the end, Hamas will be a big boomerang on Islam, taking it out of the West.
Someone pointed out after 9/11 that, ultimately, it is the job of Muslims to reign in their violent brethren; they definitely dropped the ball on that one, and quite intentionally. Ultimately, countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar that ban the Muslim Brotherhood in their countries see the developments in Europe in a positive light. Islam is spreading, and a new caliphate is a real possibility. Muslims in the West and in Islamic countries did very little to reign in their alphabet soup of terror groups. Ultimately, many of them hate Jews and the West. Seeing brothers attack the same does not bother them. And so it is up to Israel and other Western countries to put these people out of business. But you have to want to do it in order to do it. And as of right now, Israel does not have it. When the two dead Bibas boys came home, and it was determined that they had been violently murdered by hand, a Popeye Missile from a Dolphin Submarine with a low-yield atomic weapon should have been fired at Gaza City. It didn’t happen because the murder of the two boys is another reason to put up a memorial in the kibbutz where they lived. “Oy, what we have suffered!” No, “Oy, what awaits the bad guys.”
Hamas, like the Nazis in early 1942, is riding high. Their downfall—and taking Islam in the West with them—is not far off.
