As a former college athlete, I know what it means to step onto the field and compete. I played basketball and soccer; the discipline, leadership and responsibility shaped me into the person I am today. Sports gave me confidence, and a deep understanding of what it means to work hard. Plus it gave me the chance to play with hundreds of girls – some of whom I am still close friends with today.
Now, girls' sports is a dangerous minefield: young women across the country are being asked to risk their safety and privacy to compete in sports with biological men. Far-left Democrat politicians are threatening the opportunity for young girls to compete in sports while jeopardizing federal funding that’s essential for the success of our children.
This issue isn’t just cropping up here and there, it’s a particular concern in Democrat-run states like Maine, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, and Illinois. These states are putting politics ahead of the safety of young athletes by forcing schools to allow biological males to compete in girls' sports and use their locker rooms. These policies don’t just undermine fairness; they create real safety risks. We are asking young girls to share changing spaces with biological males, many of whom are physically stronger, more developed, and, in most cases, fully grown men.
Even some Democrats have admitted how easily these policies can be exploited. Former Chicago Mayor and likely 2028 Presidential candidate Rahm Emanuel himself recently said, “In seventh grade, if I had known I could’ve said the word ‘they’ and gotten in the girls’ bathroom, I would’ve done it.” Emmanuel’s honesty highlights the very real risks girls face when a biological male is allowed to share a locker room with them. Yet blue-state leaders are pretending this isn’t a problem, acting as though safety and privacy simply don’t matter.

For the past four years, the Biden administration has waged an all-out war on women and girls. They’ve redefined Title IX, the landmark law designed to protect women’s sports, undermining its original intent by erasing these protections. The administration has pressured schools into compliance with a woke gender ideology, leaving young girls powerless to speak up when they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
But common sense is starting to make a comeback. Under President Trump, this madness is coming to an end. The Trump administration is taking action to protect girls' sports, reinstate fairness, and hold blue-state governors accountable. The Department of Education recently determined that Maine violated federal law by forcing a female student to share a locker room with a biological male. Every Democrat governor pushing these policies should take note: follow the law or lose federal funding.
Washington state is a prime example of this ongoing crisis. Chris Reykdal, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, is instructing school districts to purposefully ignore President Trump's executive order aimed at stopping boys from competing in girls' sports or risk “serious consequences.” They’re trapping school districts in a no-win situation. Our schools are pleading for help to save our kids from woke overreach. The Mead School Board in Washington even contacted the Trump administration, asking for intervention to protect their students.
This isn’t just about sports, it’s about protecting our children. When the left pushes policies that allow biological males into girls' competitions and locker rooms, they’re sending a dangerous message to young women: that their safety, achievements, and rights don’t matter. They tell them that ideology comes before fairness, politics comes before science, and that standing up for the truth will bring punishment.
Our daughters deserve better. They deserve fair competition, safe spaces, and a future where they are respected and protected, not sacrificed for the latest woke agenda. It’s time for blue-state leaders to wake up, follow the law, and stop putting our students in danger.
