Sometimes we see a story come across the transom and you need to double-check that it is legitimate, simply for being too on point. So we began looking over this recent commentary from one of the mystifyingly esteemed pundits at Joe Biden’s favorite slanted news network; It’s not a misquote, it was not misattributed, and it does not derive from the Babylon Bee. This is real.
It has to be at least debated that in the drawer of butte knives at MSNBC Joy Reid is the frosting blade. She consistently delivers overwrought and under-thought proposals to such a degree that you have to wonder how it is no one has pulled her aside for counseling. This is the woman who recently tried to impugn the state of Alabama for wanting to put children into slavery (to say nothing about violating child labor laws) and in the same breath declared this was done to supplant the immigrants who have arrived in the country - unaware or unconcerned that she was effectively promoting that these immigrants should be slaves.
So yes, it is fair to say Joy is one of our favorites at the dysfunctional network, and her latest is just more delicious obliviousness. Reid was recently crowing about the Donald Trump trial in New York City, but more specifically who was behind it. In the usual unbiased fashion at MSNBC (ahem), Joy was focusing on District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The reasons for this praise are equally obvious and completely misguided, and in her enthusiasm we got some of that trademarked Joy Reid obliviousness.
First, we see her pom-poms coming out in full shake for Bragg.
Reid is herself a Harvard diploma holder, so this alumni chuminess makes sense, despite that university now holding a far lower level of import over the news from the past few months. Then, because this is Reid and she cannot help herself, race HAS to be injected into her commentary, because in all of the court cases involving Trump not a single one of them has a basis in racial content whatsoever.

And this brings us to where Joy gets too far out over her skis. In her exuberance over the concept that these minority figures, who Trump and his people are baselessly accused of trying to suppress, are the ones trying Trump in court she lets slip a detail that undermines Bragg’s magnificence. Reid thought it beautifully justified to mention that Bragg and the others came into their positions as a result of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion protocols.
And here we have on display Reid’s inability to process thoughts through to a conclusion. The flaw in suggesting this at a time where DEI standards are not only coming under intense criticism but are becoming dismantled on a regular basis in the university system does not dawn on her. That her alma mater has become a punchline as a result of former Harvard President Claiudine Gay rising to her position as a result of - and ardently pushing for more - DEI standards is lost on Joy.
So yes, the wise MSNBC pundit does not understand she is actually insulting Alvin Bragg, Fani Willis, and Letitia James by declaring them to be DEI hires, and instead it undercuts the merit of their cases against Trump. But then again, we should not expect a sharp wit to be on display from someone who only graduated from Harvard due to Affirmative Action.
That is not delivered as an insult; Joy Reid has informed us that she only managed to get into the school as a result of AA programs.
