Abortion and Gender Confusion: A Tale of Two Woke Virginia Schools

The nation knows that the epicenter of public schools gone wild is right here in Virginia. I live in Loudoun County. I know what I speak of. It’s almost as if neighboring Fairfax County and Loudoun County are in a competition to see who can out-woke the other. No matter which county school system prevails, the community seems to always lose.

Issues of race and gender constantly boil to the top at these schools as they implement outrageous policies that discriminate based on color and degenerate based on gender. Shouldn’t a state whose annual Standards of Learning are a hot mess focus on educating?

One would think. But thinking isn’t what’s being taught so much these days in certain public schools. And the annual Standards of Learning test scores prove it. Look at both Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) scores and Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) scores. Let’s just say, scores were already plummeting before the pandemic, and they’re lower now than they were then.

Let me give you an example. LCPS’s Grade 8 Virginia and U.S. History pass rates went from 52% (2021) to 49% (2022) to 43% (2023). FCPS’s Grade 8 Virginia and U.S. History pass rates went from 55% (2021) to 58% (2022) to 53% (2023). Compare these stats with pre-COVID numbers where LCPS’s Grade 8 Virginia and U.S. History pass rates went from 90% (2017) to 90% (2018) to 75% (2019). FCPS’s Grade 8 pass rates went from 91% (2017) to 87% (2018) to 77% (2019).

Despite current budgets of $1.9 billion and $3.8 billion, respectively, they continually fail their students.

But SOLs aren’t the only failure.

Recently, the W.C. Dispatch revealed another ugly stain in the fraying fabric of our public education: secret abortions at FCPS. Two Centreville High School students, who were 15 and 17 at the time, were reportedly led (one described it as coercion) to get abortions. These violent procedures were paid for by the school, arranged by school staff, and hidden from the girls’ families. This was in 2021.

It’s four years later and FCPS reluctantly launched an “investigation” claiming it just found out about these allegations. It’s a lie. A whistleblower at the school has the receipts. Zenaida Perez repeatedly reported the disturbing criminal activity to school officials only to be ignored over and over again. Now, the school board is feigning alarm.

Tuesday night, I reached out to Governor’s Youngkin’s office. I wanted to know how it was possible that nothing is being done by the AG’s office or the Department of Education. How could it be they knew nothing about this in four years? I was given this official statement: “We found out about this last week when it was published. We cannot speak to the specifics of any investigation at this time due to the potential serious criminal liability of parties involved but the allegations Mr. Curt has published would represent a serious violation of not only the law but of trust, decency and the essence of childhood by Fairfax County Public Schools.”

Here's the problem. I was told by a source in the Youngkin administration that it was known a year ago. Imagine my surprise when I saw a news release from Governor Youngkin’s office twelve hours later proclaiming: “Governor Glenn Youngkin directs Virginia State Police to open full criminal investigation into alleged school-funded abortions in Fairfax County.”

This, of course, is a great development. If it’s true that this secret abortion scandal was known by the Youngkin administration last year, the inaction is inexcusable. I take issue with the state’s Republican Party that has embraced the bizarre strategy to be completely silent about abortion. Our state has a potentially seismic change to our Constitution allowing unlimited abortion throughout the entire pregnancy (up until birth). The Virginia Family Foundation has a great factsheet on this unique legislative process that is shockingly close to succeeding. Democrats are shouting about it. And they’ve prevailed in advancing the pro-abortion amendment to the next step. Meanwhile, mum’s the word among the GOP.

So, is this why nothing has been done with this FCPS secret abortion scandal up until now?

I’m not saying that I forced any action on the part of the Governor’s office. It did a quick about-face though. I am saying we can never be silent in the face of injustice.

Keep pressing, keep talking, keep calling out the woke and morally broke. Public schools have become self-anointed kingdoms where taxpayer-funded school officials think the law is beneath them. They’ve forgotten that they’re public servants. They serve the community, not the other way around.

To serve its self-interest, the LCPS school board just voted, 6-3, to continue to waste taxpayer dollars by refusing to submit to the federal Title IX statute. Title IX was created to establish fairness in school education and sports programs for girls. It recognizes only binary sex/gender and was enacted to protect girls, not displace and replace them. LCPS’s Policy 8040 affirms gender confusion, deliberately keeps parents in the dark about transing their kids, allows boys to compete in girls’ sports, and permits girls to use boys’ locker rooms.

Earlier this summer, the LCPS Democrat-controlled school board – guilty of lying about hiding sexual assaults by a transgender student in their bathrooms and punishing boys for sexual harassment for questioning why a girl was allowed to use (and video them in) their locker room – waved away $46 million in federal funding over violations of Title IX. The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors (also dominated by Democrats), which oversees all funding for our county, stepped in and said “we will cover you [LCPS] if the federal government pulls that money.” LCPS and LCBS don’t care about the failure to serve all students or obey the law. They have a war chest, and they’ll use it. Basically, they keep saying to hell with the law.

Well, to hell with wokeism and to any political spinelessness (inside and outside of schools) that allows it to flourish.
