U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta sentenced Peter Navarro to four months in prison today. The federal judge also imposed a $9,500 fine. Prosecutors had requested that the judge sentence Navarro to six months in prison and fine him $200,000.

Navarro was convicted of contempt of Congress after not cooperating with the congressional investigation into the events on January 6, 2021.

Navarro was a trade advisor to former President Donald Trump, and was subpoenaed by Congress after he allegedly worked with Trump to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Navarro claimed executive privilege, saying, “Nobody in my position should be put in conflict between the legislative branch and the executive branch,” and has stated he will appeal the verdict.
