The far-left conspiracy to stop illegal-alien deportations that will endanger the lives of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents has gone from the federal to state level.
Earlier this month, far-left Democrat Senators Cory Booker of New Jersey and Alex Padilla of California introduced legislation to forbid ICE and other federal agents from wearing masks on targeted arrest and deportation operations.
Now, Pennsylvania state lawmakers have joined that effort. A memo released by eight Democrats in the Keystone State House of Representatives would do the same thing. The leftists have apparently forgotten that attacks on ICE agents have soared by almost 1,000 percent since President Trump took office. Or they don’t care.
Not yet introduced, the bill from main sponsor Paul Friel will require “all government agents and law enforcement officers operating within the jurisdiction to wear identifiable uniforms or clothing clearly indicating their department, agency, or affiliation,” a summary memorandum says.
As well, the bill forbids “face coverings, masks, or otherwise concealing apparel that obscures identity during official operations, except in narrowly defined circumstances (e.g., health emergencies or sanctioned undercover work).”
The reason: ICE is too successful at arresting and deporting illegal aliens — notably rapists, murderers, and terror gang members — whom Democrats say are “the people we care about most.”
The summary claims that federal agents “act without identification” and hide their faces, and have “created an unsafe environment for both citizens and law enforcement officers”:
Considering several high-profile and alarming incidents involving individuals impersonating law enforcement officers — including the recent targeted assassination of state legislators in Minnesota — the need for visual accountability in law enforcement operations has never been more urgent.
Reports have indicated that assailants wore tactical gear and posed as federal agents or law enforcement officers, gaining proximity to their victims and evading immediate detection. In a climate of growing distrust and rising security threats, these deceptions undermine public trust and pose direct dangers to citizens, public officials, and legitimate officers alike.
Moreover, current federal practices, particularly the deployment of masked or unidentifiable personnel, contradict core public safety principles and blur the line between lawful authority and unlawful coercion.
Thus would the bill require agents to wear “clearly visible identification,” including an agent’s name or badge number and his agency’s name. They must also wear “uniform or standard clothing.”
Wearing masks is forbidden, again, and violators will suffer civil penalties.
The memorandum predicts “enhanced public safety” because “criminal impersonation” will be deterred. And “citizens can confidently recognize legitimate officers, improving cooperation and reducing fear or confusion during public operations.”
So can illegal-alien terror gang members who can then escape the federal agents, but forget that not-insignificant fact.
The bill will not only increase the difficulty of “politically motivated actors” to masquerade as law enforcement, but also address an “an immediate and growing threat,” the memorandum says.
That threat comes from “violent actors” who “adopt more sophisticated tactics — including impersonation and tactical deception.”
“Measures like this are critical in order to ensure community safety and trust in law enforcement and government officials,” Friel wrote on the leftist BlueSky.
The “Visible Act” from Booker and Padilla does much the same thing. And for much the same reason. If ICE and other federal agents are easily recognized, leftists can warn illegal-alien criminals either to hide or prepare an ambush.
The far-left Democrats’ motive is clear: protect illegals, impede ICE.
The proof: When ICE and other federal agents raided two pot farms in California recently, U.S. Representative Salud Carbajal of California doxed an ICE agent to violent protestors by handing out his business card.
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell doxed ICE agents in his city.
After the far-left mayor endangered the agents, Border Czar Tom Homan explained the reason for masks. “Assaults against ICE officers are high, the doxing of ICE officers [is] at an all time high, and people always complain,” he told reporters:
Some of you here say, “Why are they wearing masks?” They’re trying to protect themselves and their families.
They’ve got a dangerous job to do and are being doxed every day across this country. I’ve experienced [it] myself a hundred times. I’m willing to take that because of the position I hold.… We’re not running a popularity contest. We’re trying to enforce the laws enacted by Congress and do it in a smart, effective way.
The Department of Homeland Security recently reported an 830-percent increase in violence against ICE agents since January 20.
That remarkable number comes as more and more Democrats call ICE agents Nazis and terrorists. Others go further. They assault the agents who attempt to arrest or detain illegals, federal prosecutors allege.
Representative LaMonica McIver of New Jersey faces three felony assault charges for attacking ICE agents at a detention facility in Newark. New York City Comptroller Brad Lander was likewise charged with assault.
