Far-left Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu of Boston said yesterday that her city would not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in deporting illegals, and that the Blue City would remain a sanctuary for illegals.
Wu falsely claimed at a news conference that the Trump administration is “attacking our cities.” In response to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s warning that sanctuary cities must drop their policies or face federal legal action, Wu said the city would do no such thing.
Wu now risks prosecution under several federal statutes, including those dealing with harboring illegals and interfering with the enforcement of federal immigration laws.
Wu’s unhinged news conference and letter to Bondi answered the attorney general’s warning of August 13. Bondi wrote to myriad sanctuary governors, mayors, and other officials.
Congress “has codified the duty of states and local governments to cooperate in immigration enforcement efforts,” Bondi wrote, adding that far-left sanctuary jurisdictions “have undermined” that partnership. As well, she added, they have openly “obstructed federal immigration enforcement, giving aliens cover to perpetrate crimes in our communities and evade the immigration consequences that federal law requires.”
Bondi added a legal threat. “Individuals operating under the color of law, using their official position to obstruct federal immigration enforcement efforts and facilitating or inducing illegal immigration may be subject to criminal charges,” Bondi wrote. She noted these federal statutes:
Former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, now a federal judge, warned likewise just after President Trump was inaugurated. And Border Czar Tom Homan named Wu as a possible target of federal law enforcement just after November’s election.
“She helps us or she gets the hell out of the way, because we’re going to” enforce immigration laws, he said:
There’s a clear line here, and they can’t cross that clear line. I will suggest she read Title 8, United States Code 1324 III, that says you can’t harbor or conceal an illegal alien from federal law enforcement officers.
They can not cooperate, but there are certain laws in place that they can’t cross, and I hope she doesn’t cross it.
Linked to Chinese intelligence, and having likened ICE agents to neo-Nazis in June, Wu — who twice vowed to resist federal law enforcement — responded to Bondi’s letter by raising her bet.
Speaking yesterday, Wu set up a legal confrontation with the federal government that might invite not only her arrest but also the arrest of any officials who aid and abet her violation of the laws that Bondi cited.
“We’re here again today because last week Boston received a letter from the attorney general of the United States on official letterhead from the federal government threatening to prosecute city officials and withhold federal funds unless we cooperate with carrying out mass deportations,” she said:
At a time when this federal administration is already causing so much fear and harm in our communities, these threats are serious and consequential. But our same communities have told me loud and clear that silence in the face of oppression is not an option.
The U.S. Attorney General asked for a response by today. So, here it is…. Stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures. Unlike the Trump administration, Boston follows the law. And Boston will not back down from who we are and what we stand for.…
You are wrong on the law, and you are wrong on safety.
In her letter to Bondi, Wu reached back to the Founding Fathers and Boston’s role in the War for Independence from a “distant monarch” to rationalize violating federal law and staging what amounts to rebellion and insurrection.
Amusingly, she cited the 10th Amendment to the Constitution to justify the city’s sanctuary statues. She also claimed that Boston’s and the state’s sanctuary law pass constitutional muster.
The administration claims differently, citing the Supremacy Clause, the basis of federal lawsuits against sanctuaries, and the immigration statutes that Bondi included in her letter.
“On behalf of the people of Boston, and in solidarity with the cities and communities targeted by this federal administration for our refusal to bow down to unconstitutional threats and unlawful coercion, we affirm our support for each other and for our democracy,” she wrote:
Boston will never back down from being a beacon of freedom, and a home for everyone.
Speaking on Fox News, DHS spokesman Tricia McLaughlin warned Wu of what might be coming. “Everything is on the table, including those lawsuits and withholding federal funding,” she said. “Politicians have to take action and stop playing these political games.”
Wu isn’t the only far-left, anti-American renegade who believes complying with federal immigration laws is voluntary. The rebellion is a nationwide conspiracy.
