Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) announced he will not be running for reelection in 2024, saying in a video on X — “I have made one of the toughest decisions of my life, and decided that I will not be running for reelection to the U.S. Senate, but what I will be doing is traveling the country and speaking out to see if there is an interest to create a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together.” Some speculate he could possibly be planning a presidential campaign.
Democrats will face a difficult race with Republicans to retain their 51-49 Senate Majority, with Manchin being West Virginia’s only Democrat in Congress. Republican primary candidates for the Senate seat include Representative Alex Mooney, and Trump endorsed candidate Governor Jim Justice.
