Hungary’s parliament approved Sweden’s NATO membership today after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced his support for Sweden joining NATO last month.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced the accession on X today: “Today is a historic day. The parliaments of all NATO member states have now voted in favour of Swedish accession to NATO. Sweden stands ready to shoulder its responsibility for Euro-Atlantic security.”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Sweden’s membership, stating on X, “I welcome the Hungarian parliament’s vote to ratify #Sweden’s membership in NATO. Now that all Allies have approved, Sweden will become the 32nd #NATO Ally. Sweden’s membership will make us all stronger and safer.”

Orbán met with Kristersson last Friday in Budapest, stating on X, “Today we opened a new phase of cooperation between Hungary and Sweden with @SwedishPM Ulf Kristersson. Thank you for your visit, Prime Minister!”
