U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Houthis attacked a U.S.-owned bulk carrier Gibraltar Eagle with an anti-ship cruise missile in the Gulf of Aden today. The ship, flying the Marshall Islands flag, is owned by Stamford, Connecticut, based Eagle Bulk Shipping and was carrying steel products.
CENTCOM attributed the attack to Houthis in a post on X, and stated the strike did not seriously damage the ship: “The ship has reported no injuries or significant damage and is continuing its journey.”
The strike on the ship today comes after a U.S. fighter aircraft shot down an anti-ship cruise missile yesterday. The Houthi-fired missile targeted U.S. destroyer USS Laboon and was intercepted midair near Hodeidah, Yemen.
