Representative George Santos (R-N.Y.) announced he will not run for reelection after the House Ethics Committee found “substantial evidence” that Santos violated federal criminal laws, and the Investigative Subcommittee recommended referring the allegations to the Department of Justice. Santos allegedly used campaign donations for “personal financial profit,” according to the Ethics Committee report.

Santos allegedly made transfers of at least $200,000 to his personal accounts, and spent campaign funds on purchases and credit card payments, including a $4,127.80 purchase at Hermes, and purchases at the website Only Fans and cosmetic store Sephora.

In his response to the Ethics Committee report, the disgraced politician announced on X: “THE TIME IS NOW FOR THE STATES TO RISE UP AND COMMENCE AN ARTICLE V CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION!” Santos also stated he would not run for reelection: “I will however NOT be seeking re-election for a second term in 2024 as my family deserves better than to be under the gun from the press all the time.”

Santos could be expelled from Congress as soon as the Thanksgiving recess ends, with CNN reporter Melanie Zanona announcing on X: “NEWS: House Ethics Chair Michael Guest will make motion to expel Santos at next pro forma, teeing up action when Congress returns from recess.”
