The former Justice Department employee must have thought that hurling a hoagie at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was a joke.
If so, he was wrong. Federal prosecutors didn’t laugh. Instead, they charged Sean Charles Dunn, 37, with felony assault on a federal agent. And U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi fired the loose cannon today.
Message: Any attack on a federal agent — especially with a Subway sandwich — will be prosecuted.
Dunn’s is one of a number of recent assaults against federal agents, especially those who are enforcing the nation’s immigration laws.
Unbeknownst to Dunn, apparently, he ended his career at the Justice Department (DOJ) on Sunday just before midnight.
At about 11 p.m., the criminal complaint says, “Metro Transit Police (‘MTP’) Detective Daina Henry, Badge # D948, and members of United States Customs and Border Protection (‘CBP’) were patrolling the area of 2001 14th Street NW in Washington, DC.”
Henry saw Dunn shouting at CBP agent Gregory Lairmore. He was on the street as part of President Trump’s crackdown on crime in the city. Trump deployed the FBI and National Guard to the city pursuant to his declaring a crime emergency.
“DUNN stood within inches of [Lairmore], pointed his finger in [Lairmore’s] face, and yelled, “Fk you! You fking fascists! Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!” the complaint alleges:
DUNN continued his conduct for several minutes before crossing the street and continuing to yell obscenities.
After six minutes of the tirade, Dunn “threw a sandwich at [Lairmore], striking [him] in the chest,” the complaint alleges.
A witness caught the attack for an Instagram video, which shows “DUNN screaming at [Lairmore] within inches of his face for several seconds before winding his arm back and forcefully throwing a sub-style sandwich.”
Video also shows Dunn trying to flee. Alas and alack, too many late-night Subway treats aren’t conducive to a fleet-footed escape from the scene of the crime.
“Let me be clear, if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, be certain we will come after you with the full weight of the law,” said the U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro:
Our officers have a job to do, and they should not be abused in the process. This alleged assault is no joke — it’s a serious crime, and those who think otherwise will learn just how gravely mistaken they are.
On X, Pirro posted video with a similar message.
“He thought it was funny,” Pirro said. “Well, he doesn’t think it’s funny today, because we charged him with a felony.”
That felony is “assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and employees of the United States,” a crime under 18 U.S. Code 111.
Pirro kindly demonstrated the size of the hoagie. It looked like a 12-incher.
“I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER,” Bondi wrote on X:
Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony.
This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ.
You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.
Assaults against federal agents are increasing. Those against Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are up 1,000 percent from the day President Trump took office. Hate-Trump leftists apparently believe they will pay no price for breaking the law.
Among others charged with assault are far-left Democratic U.S. Representative LaMonica McIver of New Jersey. She faces three counts of assault for rumbling with ICE agents outside an illegal-alien detention facility in Newark.
Also charged is New York City comptroller Brad Lander. He tried to stop ICE agents from arresting an illegal alien at an immigration court.
Both assaults were captured on video.
