On December 7, 1941, Japan won a victory so resounding at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, that a casual observer might have considered its empire an unstoppable force. Yet the Land of the Rising Sun never had a chance. With an industrial base dwarfed by that of the United States, its eventual defeat was inevitable.
