A 14-year-old girl died Sunday evening while her friend, 12, was seriously injured when they plummeted from the roof of an abandoned building in Rishon Lezion.
The deceased girl was named Monday morning as Melania Bobkova.
The two had climbed to the top of a disused winery in the central district city before falling.
Police said there was “no criminal suspicion” in the incident.
Magen David Adom medics said they found the girls unconscious and suffering from multiple injuries. They were taken to the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, where doctors declared Bobkova dead.
According to Hebrew media reports, Bobkova had ascended the same roof last month but police were able to convince her to come down safely. Some of the reports said the other girl was with her on that occasion too.
Following that incident, Bobkova was committed to welfare care, while her friend was returned to her family.
Reports said Bobkova was released on Sunday from welfare care, met up with her friend and together they returned to the winery.
Police had been trying to locate Bobkova and had issued an appeal to the public for help in finding her. Officers were eventually able to trace one of the girls’ cellphones, but it was at a different location, Kan news reported.
One of the girls had left her family and both were well-known to welfare services, Kan reported. A large amount of alcohol was found at the site, the network noted.
A friend of the Bobkova family told the Ynet outlet that the family “felt that something would happen. The system here is broken. You don’t lose children like this. It is everyone’s fault.”
The person, who was not named, also blamed the owners of the abandoned winery, saying it should have been properly fenced off.
“The whole system failed here,” they said.
In another incident on Sunday, a two-year-old boy was seriously injured in Jerusalem when he fell five meters in a stairwell.
He was taken to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center suffering from multiple injuries.
Medics said residents of the building told them the boy had fallen from the second floor after squeezing through the banisters of the stairwell. Police opened an investigation.
