A nascent hostage deal that was being discussed by the cabinet into the early hours of Wednesday is expected to include many, though not all, of the children who have been held captive by Hamas and other terror groups in Gaza since October 7.

Some 50 Israeli hostages are set to be freed — in groups of about 12, over four days, with possible further subsequent releases. The 50 to be released in the deal with Hamas are set to be children, mothers and other women, but no list of names has been released. Not all of the children are being held by Hamas, the main Gazan party to the deal, and not all of their whereabouts are known.
