Palestinian media outlets reported on Friday that around 15 Palestinian vehicles were set on fire near the settlement of Ariel in the western West Bank.
The cars belonged to Palestinian workers employed in the area. No injuries were reported.
According to the reports, settlers were responsible for the arson, but the Israel Police have yet to comment on the incident.
The attack, if committed by settlers, was most likely a “price tag” attack, which often sees extremist Jews vandalize Palestinian property, apparently as an act of revenge in response to a terror attack.
On Wednesday, a Palestinian terrorist shot and killed Tzeela Gez, a 30-year-old pregnant woman, while she was driving with her husband, Hananel, to the hospital to give birth. Hananel was lightly injured in the attack; the child was delivered in an emergency C-section and remains in serious condition.
The terror group Hamas praised the murder, but did not take responsibility for it.
A manhunt for the assailant, who security forces believe worked alone, is still underway.
Settler violence has spiked since the October 7, 2023, Hamas onslaught in the south, which saw Hamas-led terrorists invade Israel, killing some 1,200 people and kidnapping 251.
Israeli authorities rarely arrest Jewish perpetrators in such attacks. Some rights groups lament that convictions are even more unusual and that the vast majority of charges in these types of attacks are dropped.
Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have arrested some 6,000 wanted Palestinians across the West Bank, including more than 2,350 affiliated with Hamas. According to the Palestinian Authority health ministry, more than 950 West Bank Palestinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were gunmen killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops, or terrorists carrying out attacks.
There has also been a significant increase in settler violence against Palestinians since the start of the war.
During the same period, 52 people, including Israeli security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another eight members of the security forces were killed in clashes with terror operatives in the West Bank.
