In today’s media environment, hostilities and biases against Israel are often front and center, with stories getting twisted everywhere from social media to reputable news sites. Tamar Schwarzbard is determined to cut through the noise.
For Schwarzbard—the former head of digital operations at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a sought-after communications strategist—the stakes could not be higher. With jew-hatred escalating and misinformation spreading at an unprecedented rate, she warns that we can no longer afford to tread lightly.
“We have to boldly unify our message and tell Israel’s story in a way that resonates far beyond our own community,” explained Schwarzbard
Too often, she observes, Israel’s messaging remains trapped within its own networks instead of reaching the silent majority—those who are open to listening but have yet to form an opinion. That’s why she argues for a fundamental shift in approach, moving from defensive policy advocacy to proactive, human-centered stories.
“On a good day, there are 16 million Jews in the world, and we’re talking about billions of other people who are sharing a very different narrative,” said Schwarzbard.
By showing people the reality of life under constant threat—including the events of October 7—and putting names and faces to the headlines, Schwarzbard hopes to bridge divides and build common ground.
On platforms where the loudest and most extreme voices are rewarded with views—and in some cases legitimacy—there is more need than ever for nuanced perspectives to be heard.
Fortunately, Schwarzbard says progress has been made, and she remains optimistic. “Pro-Israel advocates are now quicker to counter falsehoods and better at humanizing stories,” she said. “Extremists do not represent everyone. There are many fair-minded, compassionate people listening—people ready to hear about experiences outside of their own.”
As an advocate for the land and people of Israel, Schwarzbard will share her expertise with thousands of Zionists at Jewish National Fund-USA’s (sold out) Global Conference for Israel, taking place October 23-26 in Hollywood, Florida.
Set to be one of the largest gatherings of Israel’s supporters in the U.S., Schwarzbard’s panel discussion on social media will highlight how Jewish National Fund-USA is determined to support proud Zionist voices as it shares its positive and uplifting philanthropic work with the world.
“At the Global Conference for Israel, I’ll go deeper into how we can break through echo chambers, reach new audiences, and advocate for Israel in a strategic and deeply human way,” she said.
