Three Israelis were killed Saturday in a car crash in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

The three were later named as Ussayd and Jumana Amer, along with their 6-month-old daughter Julia. The three, residents of the central city of Kafr Qasim, were vacationing in the Red Sea resort town of Nuweiba.

Two of the Amers’ other children survived the crash with moderate-to-severe injuries, according to Hebrew media reports, and were still on the Egyptian side of the border.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it was working with the Israeli embassy in Cairo to bring the bodies back to Israel and assist with the surviving family members’ hospitalization.

MK Ahmad Tibi, a veteran lawmaker, told the Walla news site that he also contacted Egyptian authorities about retrieving the bodies.

The news site quoted Jumana Amer’s brother as saying that the crash occurred as the family was en route to celebrations for the Muslim holiday of Eid el-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, which begins on Sunday. According to Saleh Badir, the family has not yet been informed about the circumstances of the crash.

“It’s a terrible tragedy; a family has been cut off,” Badir told Walla. “We will of course do everything for the two children who survived.”

He added that a relative was en route to the Taba border crossing to pick up the surviving children.
