An Israeli man was seriously injured Sunday during what the military said was a car-ramming attack in the northern West Bank.

A Palestinian suspect who attempted to carry out the attack at the Jit Junction was shot dead by troops, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The wounded Israeli man, in his 20s, was injured in the head, medics reported. According to a preliminary investigation by the army, he was hit as the soldiers opened fire on the suspected attacker.

Magen David Adom took the man to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva for treatment.

The incident began when a truck driven by the suspect allegedly accelerated toward Israeli troops at the junction, before colliding with a vehicle, according to the initial IDF investigation. The soldiers then opened fire on the driver.

The Hamas terror group welcomed the attack, but stopped short of claiming responsibility.

The Palestinian suspect was identified by Israeli defense officials as a resident of the West Bank city of Nablus.

The IDF blocked entrances to the city as well as villages in the area. Palestinian media said the IDF also blocked off access to Qalqilya and all villages along a stretch of Route 55 connecting the city to Nablus.

The incident came ten days after two soldiers were killed in an attack at the Allenby Bridge border crossing with Jordan.

The assailant was a Jordanian who had been driving a humanitarian aid truck headed for the Gaza Strip.
