An IDF soldier on furlough was killed in his home by an apparent accidental discharge by a police officer, the military and police announced Tuesday.
The incident took place Monday night in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba, near Hebron.
The soldier was hit by a bullet fired from the police officer’s gun, was critically wounded, and later died.
Police said that an “officer who was on vacation at home fired a bullet from his personal weapon that hit another person.”
“The details of the incident were forwarded to the relevant authorities for review,” the police added.
The Israel Defense Forces said that following the incident, a joint investigation by the Military Police and the Justice Ministry’s Police Internal Investigations Department was launched.
“The IDF shares the family’s grief and will continue to accompany them,” the military added.
