The Israeli military on Saturday said it carried out a drone strike against a group of armed Palestinian terror operatives in the Jenin area in the northern West Bank.
The strike came amid a major counter-terrorism operation in the northern West Bank.
The IDF did not give further details on the strike.
Palestinian officials said the strike killed a 14-year-old boy.
Two other people were also taken to a hospital after being wounded in the attack on an eastern neighborhood of the city, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.
Jenin governor Kamal Abu al-Rub told AFP that the teenager, Ahmad Sadi, and the two others “were hit by an occupation drone when they were in the street.”
The ongoing IDF offensive, dubbed Operation Iron Wall, has primarily focused on the city and refugee camp of Jenin but on Monday expanded to Tulkarem.
Visiting Jenin Wednesday, Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed the IDF would remain in the camp even after the military operation there, “to ensure terror does not return.”
The West Bank has seen a surge in violence since Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel out of the Gaza Strip ignited the war there. The Palestinian Authority says over 800 Palestinians have been killed in the territory. Most appear to have been fighters killed in battle during Israeli arrest raids, but the dead also include people killed during violent protests, as well as civilian bystanders.
There has also been an uptick in settler violence against Palestinians and Palestinian attacks on Israelis since the start of the war.
