The day after four worshippers were fatally shot at a Mormon church and the building set ablaze, a fundraising page for the gunman’s family appeared online.
David Butler, a fellow Mormon and the man behind the page, was terrified for those injured in the deadly attack on Sept 28.
But he also worried about the wife and son of Thomas Sanford, who was shot dead by police at the scene.
He wrote that he had no connection to Sanford’s family but that he knew they “must be grieving”.
“They didn’t lose the crazy man who slammed his truck into the church and threw gasoline on it and shot people,” he told The Telegraph. “They lost the dad who went to work for the family and who showed up for the Little League games.”
