White House officials believe a trade deal with Britain can be finalised within three weeks, The Telegraph can reveal.
An insider familiar with the strategy said London was in a good position for a rapid deal although the UK will likely be in a second wave of announcements, following Japan, India, and South Korea, which Donald Trump wants to reach agreements with in order to isolate China.
It comes a day after JD Vance, the US vice-president, sent the FTSE 100 surging by predicting that Mr Trump would agree a “great” trade deal with London because of his “cultural affinity” with Britain.
A White House official told The Telegraph that meant an agreement was expected “soon”.
“Two weeks,” he said, adding: “Or maybe three.”
The UK was slapped with a blanket 10 per cent tariff on nearly all goods imported into the US after Mr Trump’s “liberation day” move to reset global trade.
