Good evening. Judges are to be given new powers to ensure criminals cannot refuse to attend sentencing – and the Kremlin announces Prigozhin’s plane crash may have been a “deliberate atrocity”.

Plus, video footage appears to suggest the Ukrainian military has breached a section of Russia’s main defensive line.

Victims will be able to look offenders in the eye and tell them of the devastating consequences of their crime as they read out their impact statements, rather than addressing an empty dock. This is the intent of reforms announced today that will create a new power for judges to order an offender to attend their hearings. The right of custody officers to use reasonable force to make criminals appear in the dock is also to be enshrined in law.

The Kremlin has not ruled out the possibility that the plane carrying Yevgeny Prigozhin was downed on purpose, according to Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for Vladimir Putin, speaking earlier this afternoon. This came after Russia’s foreign ministry warned that a wave of overnight Ukrainian drone attacks – the largest of the war so far – “will not go unpunished”. Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the drones, some of which struck an airbase in Pskov, 400 miles from Ukraine, could not have covered such distances without information from western countries.

Meanwhile, on the Zaporizhzhia front, video footage has appeared to suggest the Ukrainian military has breached a section of Russia’s main defensive line.

Flame-grilled beef toppling from the side of a sesame seed bun, crisp lettuce leaves and copious amounts of dill pickle – this may be how Burger King advertises its signature hamburger, but customers in the US claim the reality is a much more drab affair. So much so, in fact, that a class action lawsuit over false advertising looks set to be heard in front of a jury.
