For many Wimbledon fans, sipping on a Pimm’s or glass of prosecco is a customary part of the courtside experience.
But one spectator was so eager to crack open their bottle of champagne during a match on Sunday that they appeared to forget SW19’s court etiquette - popping the cork in the middle of a serve.
The noise was so loud that it prompted John Blom, an Australian umpire, to warn the crowd: “Ladies and Gentlemen, please if you are opening a bottle of champagne, don’t do it as the players are about to serve.”
It sparked laughter and applause around Court Three, while Anastasia Potapova, a Russian tennis player, smiled and nodded in approval at the umpire’s announcement.
Making light of the incident, Wimbledon posted a clip of the interruption, dubbing it “the most Wimbledon warning ever”
