Tucker Carlson has confirmed he is in Russia to interview Vladimir Putin.

Following days of speculation, the former Fox News broadcaster shared a video on X, formally Twitter, filmed in the country’s capital.

“We are in Moscow,” he said.

“Tonight we’re her to interview the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin. We’ll be doing that soon,” he said.

Mr Carlson’s interview will mark the first time a western journalist has interviewed the Russian leader since the country invaded Ukraine two years ago.

“There are risks to conducting an interview like this, obviously,” Mr Carlson said in the four-minute video, adding: “So we thought about it carefully over many months. Here’s why we’re doing it. First, because it’s our job. We’re in journalism. Our duty is to inform people, two years into war that’s reshaping the entire world.

“Most Americans are not informed.”

Mr Carlson said: “We are not here because we love Vladimir Putin. We are here because we love the United States. We want to remain prosperous. And free. 

“We paid for this trip ourselves, we took no money from any government or group. Nor are we charging people to see the interview.”

He said the interview would be posted “unedited” on his website and shared on X.
