Watch: Pro-Palestinian protesters force Zara and H&M to shut during Boxing Day sales

Pro-Palestinian protesters have staged a demonstration during Boxing Day sales at a shopping centre in east London.

A group of demonstrators appeared to be targeting stores including H&M and Starbucks at Westfield in Stratford.

Footage showed crowds outside a branch of Starbucks, which was reportedly forced to shut. Photographs also showed demonstrators holding signs calling for a ceasefire outside Zara.

One sign read: “Zara stop supporting the genocide of Gaza.”

In footage circulating on social media, police and security guards could be seen guarding the entrance to an H&M store.

Protesters can be heard chanting “no more shopping while bombs are dropping” in the video as they wave Palestinian flags.

Demonstrators have since been escorted off of the premises and a cordon has been set up at the entrance to the shopping centre.

It came after hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters brought Oxford Street to a standstill on Dec 23. They marched slowly along the central London shopping street, forcing branches of Zara and Puma to temporarily lock their doors.

Sisters Uncut, one of the groups organising the Dec 23 march, said “Christmas is cancelled” and said shopping should stop “until there is a ceasefire”.

The demonstrators then made their way from Soho Square towards Oxford Circus, holding up buses and taxis.
