Watch: Macron and Tusk appear to mock Trump’s handshake

Emmanuel Macron, the French president, and Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, have appeared to mock Donald Trump’s handshake.

The pair met in Warsaw this week, days after a summit between Mr Trump and Mr Macron at the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral at the weekend.

As they posed for the cameras in Paris, Mr Trump clasped Mr Macron’s hand and raised his right elbow in the air at an unusual 45-degree angle.

In Warsaw, Mr Macron and Mr Tusk appeared to try to recreate the greeting on Thursday, in between discussing key international issues such as the continuing Russia-Ukraine war.

Posting the Warsaw video of them on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Tusk wrote: “Handshakes with Donalds are usually quite a challenge…”

In the clip, Mr Macron is seen grinning broadly, while the equally ebullient Mr Tusk punches the Frenchman playfully on the arm.
