A Kamala Harris rally has been disrupted by pro-Palestine activists who accused her of promoting genocide and called her “Killer Kamala”.

Ten protesters disrupted the Vice President’s campaign stop in Madison, Wisconsin, carrying banners and shouting over her speech.

The activists, from a local university and the women-run anti-war group Code Pink, were ejected from the event  in Madison on Friday.

As they were led away by police, they chanted: “Killer Kamala, you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide.”

The demonstrators were carrying banners that read: “Not another bomb” and “If you’re the lesser evil, why bomb Gaza with our tax dollars”.

Ms Harris faces significant opposition from some liberal and Muslim voters for her backing of the Biden administration’s support for Israel.

Her campaign has attempted to win back support from some pro-Palestinian voters, making the case for the territory’s self-determination and a ceasefire deal to end the war in Gaza.

In her speech at the Democratic National Convention last month, Ms Harris spoke of the “innocent lives lost” during the conflict.

“Desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety, over and over again,” she said. “The scale of suffering is heartbreaking.”

She pledged to allow people in Gaza to “realise their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination”.

However, she has also said she would continue US aid for Israel if she wins the presidential election on November 5, a position that some pro-Palestinian voters consider to be support for an illegal war.

Protesters have called for an arms embargo on Israel from the US, ending billions of dollars of support that began after Hamas’s October 7 attack last year.

Mr Biden has paused the shipment of some heavy bombs over concerns about their use by Israel in civilian areas, but argues that the US must continue to support Israel.

Some of Ms Harris’s backers say that while her stance may not appeal to hardline pro-Palestinians, her administration would be more sympathetic to their cause than Donald Trump’s.

Shahayra Majumder, one of the activists at the rally on Friday, said Ms Harris should spend more time working on a ceasefire deal, rather than on the campaign trail.

“We are here to demonstrate to Harris that it’s not enough to just say she’s the lesser evil,” she said.

“As if it’s not bad enough that she’s complicit in killing my brothers and sisters in Gaza, she is on the campaign trail instead of spending every waking moment on negotiating a ceasefire that would save US taxpayers billions.

“We will continue to apply pressure on VP Harris until there is a ceasefire and a halt to US arms sales to Israel.”
