The Russian military suffered 1,270 casualties in the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian general staff has said. 

The total would mark one of the highest number of daily Russian casualty figures since the Russian invasion in February 2022. 

Ukraine’s military regularly reported Russian casualties of more than 1,000 throughout May. If accurate, it would make the month the most deadly for Moscow’s forces since the start of the war. 

The Telegraph cannot independently verify Ukraine’s claims, but the UK’s Ministry of Defence assessed that Russian losses amounted to 1,200 per day throughout May. 

The total number of Russian losses since February 2022 are thought to have likely reached 500,000.
