Ukraine “must be prepared” for waves of Russian attacks on critical energy infrastructure and the eastern frontline this winter, Volodymr Zelensky has warned.
“We must be prepared for the possibility that the enemy may increase the number of drone or missile strikes on our infrastructure,” the Ukrainian president said.
“Russia is preparing for Ukraine. And here, in Ukraine, all attention should be focused on defence, on responding to terrorists on everything that Ukraine can do to get through the winter and improve our soldiers’ capabilities.”
He also hailed the “heroic” efforts of troops defending the eastern town of Avdiivka, under pressure from attempted Russian advances since mid-October.
Mr Zelensky’s nightly video address on Sunday came a day after Russian forces carried out their first missile attack on the capital, Kyiv in some seven weeks.
Last winter, Moscow’s forces repeatedly attacked Ukraine’s energy grid, leaving thousands without heating or electricity in freezing temperatures for long periods.
