Russia launched a wave of overnight drone and missile attacks on at least seven Ukrainian cities.
A nationwide air alert was put in place as drones and hypersonic, ballistic and cruise missiles targeted Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv and Konotop in the early hours of Friday morning.
In Kyiv, 17 people were injured and seven were rushed to hospital, the city’s military administration and mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
At least one civilian was killed and 11 others injured when more than 20 missiles struck the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, local officials said.
Authorities in Lviv, a rarely attacked western city, said one person died and eight were injured after 10 Shahed drones attacked the city. Four were killed and 15 others wounded in Dnipro.
In Zaporizhzhia, one died and 10 were injured; in Odesa, two died and 15 were injured; and in Konotop, three were injured.
“We haven’t seen so much red on our monitors for a very long time,” said Yurii Ihnat, the Ukrainian air force spokesman. “In all areas, in all directions.”
The overnight attacks came just days after Ukraine struck a Russian warship in the occupied Crimean port of Feodosia in a major setback for Moscow’s naval forces.
