Good evening. The Pensions Secretary has suggested that the triple lock is “not sustainable” as the Government considers changing its approach to their key pledge. Elsewhere, the Princess of Wales has been out on an unusual public engagement.

Twelve million people could receive a smaller increase in their state pension than expected next year, as the Government considers changing its approach to the triple lock, Ben Riley-Smith, our Political Editor, reports. The Telegraph understands that the Treasury is considering stripping out the impact of bonuses, which have always been used to calculate average earnings alongside wages. Mel Stride, the Pensions Secretary, said the triple lock is “not sustainable” in the long term, but insisted the Government currently remained committed to keeping the pledge. It comes after Rishi Sunak refused to commit to keeping the triple lock if his party wins the next election.

More than four in 10 patients’ health deteriorated while they were waiting for NHS care, a new report has found. The biggest annual analysis of hospital care revealed growing frustration with waits for care. Micheal Searles, our Health Correspondent, reports that almost a fifth of people said their health “got much worse” while waiting for an appointment. It comes amid reports the NHS has been the biggest recipient of extra staff in a hiring spree that has pushed public sector employment to its highest level in more than a decade.

The Princess of Wales sported a finger injury during a visit to a men’s prison in Surrey, where she learned about how prisoners are supported through addiction. The Princess underwent normal security checks at the prison and revealed she had suffered a small injury during a trampolining session at her home in Windsor. As patron of The Forward Trust, the Princess was visiting HMP High Down to see the charity’s work in action, India McTaggart, our Royal Correspondent, reports.
